Breastfeeding rates continue to be low in East Lothian, this is a public health issue and underpinned by levels of poverty and the high prevalence of health inequalities faced by those who are younger families or those already suffering hardship. Working towards supporting and educating parents on the benefits of breastfeeding and safe infant feeding practices is essential to reduce health inequalities. It is not enough to inform families of the benefits to health and financial well-being without having adequate plans of support and signposting to breastfeeding support services. More joined up multidisciplinary working is required in order to address and close the health inequality work, with understanding from local and national level as to why this issue has such an impact on the individual family, the local community as well as the county as a whole.

Please support parents of multiples , we need help with childcare now as the cost of living already means additional costs for food , clothing and bills when you have 2 plus children at once . By adding multiples to the eligible 2 year old list for childcare this will ensure that parents can bring in an income to pay for rising costs without loosing their homes and being forced to seek benefits as they are forced out of the workplace
