Rising inflation has meant that many have had to make changes to their spending habits. For those who didn’t have enough to begin with, and were already making their money stretch as far as possible, further cuts has become a choice between heating or eating, and sometimes skipping both.

On behalf of Fa'side Area Partnership. There is a conversation about a 'cash first' approach to tackling the impacts of poverty. We understand the argument however, this has to be part of suite of options available for local households and not the only option. There are concerns that families who have members living in addiction, with ongoing domestic violence and power dynamics which mean that other members of the household don't have a say in how or what services they can access or use. So its important that we survey those households who use our services frequently to understand why and ensure that those other members of the households have their voices heard, particularly children (linked to UNCRC). There are a range of excellent initiatives underway such as the festive provisions that bring communities and households together in a dignified way, and in a manner which would costs way more if using a cash first approach.
