What more could the Council or any other public body be doing to reduce poverty and inequality in East Lothian?

East Lothian Council is working to tackle poverty through its Poverty Plan.

This plan covers actions to:

  • Bring better jobs to East Lothian, and help people build the skills they need to thrive in these jobs.
  • Help people access the benefits they are entitled to and make sure there is support for people experiencing crisis.
  • Access a warm, dry and suitable home, and to support people who are facing homelessness.
  • Close the education attainment gap, and make sure that all pupils have opportunities in school to thrive.
  • Help people in East Lothian enjoy healthier lives where health inequalities are eliminated.
  • Build resilient communities that are well-connected by transport and broadband.
  • Communities are empowered to influence decisions taken by the Council, and that people with lived experience of poverty are engaged.
