Description
Prestonpans Community Centre Management Committee would like to apply for funding the P7 Youth club that runs on Wednesday evenings and has been running in some form since 1982.
The P7 transition team within the PSG area would like to continue supporting P7 children with their transition into high school and to increase involvement in the community. Last year we saw P7 pupils struggling with the changes to their normal transition to high school due to the building issues the high school faced. Alongside this, we continue to see many more children struggling with mental health, transitions and engaging positively in the community. Through the development of a P7 group we can explore these issues in a productive way and increase engagement with communities and children’s opportunities for wellbeing.

Why does this only target Preston Tower and St Gabriel’s pupils? Why not all Preston lodge catchment schools?
There are similar clubs in both longniddry and port seton targeting p7 pupils so they can access a club within walking distance :-)
Shame this is not supporting volunteering in the area. Concerned that this application is for ELC staff and not targeting children in the Area plan
Seems like you have a problem with any application that is related to ELC as that’s the only ones you’ve had a comment about.
The management committee have explored options with volunteering in order to bring costs down. Working with young children requires qualified youth workers who have been disclosed and deemed safe for the role. Using volunteers sounds like a great idea, but regular volunteers are hard to come by and could potentially put the project at risk of closure. The feedback from the children attending previously has been great, it opens up opportunities to build friendships with safe adults. It is open to all children in the area.
And the parents must take comfort in what you’ve said that there is trained workers present for the quantity of kids that go, unlike some organisations who have volunteers to boost the numbers they can have attending
